Chesapeake is an independent city with its own building department, and it is also the most internally varied place we work. Treating it as one market produces bad estimates, because a kitchen in South Norfolk and a kitchen in Hickory are not the same project.

South Norfolk, in 23324, is the historic core: early-1900s homes with plaster walls, original wiring, settled floors, and the same constraints we deal with daily in Ghent and Colonial Place. Great Bridge, Western Branch, Deep Creek, and Hickory are largely 1980s onward, built on larger lots with square framing, standard cabinet openings, and 200 amp service already in place. The work in those neighborhoods is faster and more predictable, and we price it accordingly.

The lot sizes are a practical advantage. In most of Chesapeake we can park a dumpster and stage cabinets on site rather than running small daily deliveries, which is what tight streets force us into elsewhere. From our Colley Ave base, Great Bridge is 20 to 25 minutes with no tunnel in the route, so scheduling here is more reliable than for jobs on the Portsmouth side.

Kitchen Remodel Norfolk in Chesapeake — Local Notes

  • Chesapeake is an independent city with its own permit fees and inspection scheduling, separate from Norfolk's.
  • South Norfolk in 23324 is early-1900s housing stock with plaster and original wiring; Great Bridge, Hickory, and Western Branch are mostly 1980s onward.
  • Larger lots across most of the city allow on-site dumpster placement and material staging, which shortens schedules compared to tight urban streets.
  • Newer Chesapeake subdivisions typically already have 200 amp service, so appliance upgrades rarely require a panel change.
  • No tunnel sits between our Norfolk shop and Chesapeake, making arrival times more predictable than Portsmouth or Peninsula jobs.

Kitchen Remodel Norfolk in Chesapeake — FAQs

Still have questions? We're happy to talk it through.

+ Who permits a kitchen remodel in Chesapeake?
Chesapeake, through their own building department. It is an independent city like Norfolk and Virginia Beach, with its own permit fees and inspection scheduling. We pull Chesapeake permits directly rather than treating it as an extension of a Norfolk job.
+ Does the neighborhood change the scope much?
Enormously. South Norfolk in 23324 is the oldest section, with early-1900s homes, plaster, and the same wiring and settling issues you find in Ghent. Great Bridge, Hickory, and Western Branch are mostly 1980s and later, on larger lots with square framing. Deep Creek falls in between. A quote that does not ask which part of the city you are in is not a real quote.
+ Is there room to stage materials and put a dumpster on site?
Usually yes, and it is one of the genuine advantages of working here. Larger lots mean we can place a dumpster and stage materials on site rather than delivering in small daily loads the way we have to in Ghent or Olde Towne. That takes real days off a schedule.
+ Will my panel handle new appliances?
In the newer subdivisions, rarely. They were built with 200 amp service and modern circuits, so adding an induction cooktop or a run of under-cabinet lighting is usually straightforward. In South Norfolk it is a live question, and we check the panel at the first visit rather than at rough-in.
+ How far are you from Chesapeake?
About 20 to 25 minutes to Great Bridge from our Colley Ave shop, less to South Norfolk. No tunnel involved in either direction, which makes Chesapeake one of the easier parts of our service area to schedule reliably.
